KJK Estate, Wealth & Succession Planning Partner Susan Friedman will serve as a speaker at the Cleveland Jewish Book Festival alongside author and Case Western Reserve University School of Law Professor Sharona Hoffman. Their presentation, Aging With a Plan, will discuss practical and thoughtful ways to manage issues with aging family members as well as how to navigate our own journey.
The discussion will include:

- The expenses you need to be prepared for – and how to save for them.
- The most important things to know about medical care as you and your loved ones grow older.
- The best ways to approach sensitive topics like driving, finances, estate planning and more.

About the Speakers
Susan Friedman, J.D., MSSA, is a partner in KJK’s Estate, Wealth & Succession Planning group. She is experienced in all aspects of estate planning, probate, trust and estate administration, special needs planning, charitable planning and guardianships. Susie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Washington University in St. Louis and earned her Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. In addition to her law degree, Susie holds a master’s degree in social work, which further helps her to address and resolve various issues her clients face. Susie is involved with Jewish Federation of Cleveland and has served on the Donor Advised Fund Committee since 2016. Additionally, she participates in the Professional Advisors Council with Jewish Federation, is a member of the American Heart Association’s Advisor Network and serves on the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland Membership Committee. Susie also sits on the Board for the Cleveland Hillel Foundation and is a member of the University Hospitals of Cleveland Diamond Advisor Group. Susie is regularly quoted in the media as a go-to source on the topic of estate planning, and she was recognized as a “Top Author” in the 2023 JD Supra Readers’ Choice Awards.
Sharona Hoffman, J.D., LL.M, S.J.D, is a professor of law and bioethics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She joined the faculty in 1999 and is now the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Law, Professor of Bioethics and Co-Director of the Law School’s Law-Medicine Center. Professor Hoffman received her B.A. from Wellesley College, her J.D. from Harvard Law School, an LL.M. in health law from the University of Houston and an S.J.D. in health law from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has published more than 60 articles and book chapters on health law and civil rights issues. She is also the author of two books: Aging with a Plan: How a Little Thought Today Can Vastly Improve Your Tomorrow and Electronic Health Records and Medical Big Data: Law and Policy. In 2021, Leiter’s Law School Reports listed her as the 9th most cited health law professor for the years 2016-2020. Professor Hoffman has lectured throughout the United States and internationally and has been widely quoted in the press.
