Research and Writing Associate- Corporate and Securities

Professional Staff Openings

HR Manager
The Human Resource Manager will lead and direct all routine functions of the Human Resources department, including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Partners with the management team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and administrative strategy, particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, and retention
  • First contact for questions on benefits, and policy & procedures. Must have strong knowledge and understanding of current labor and employment laws affecting hiring, employee relations, and separation of employees.
  • Provides support and guidance to client service coordinators (CSCs), office services and other administrative staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations
  • Assists the firm’s Director of Talent on the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, coordinating with law school career offices, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborates with departmental directors to understand skills and competencies required for job openings.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintains communications between lawyers and administrative staff
  • With the firm’s labor and employment attorneys, reviews, revises, and maintains the firm’s Employee Handbook and personnel policies
  • Works with the firm’s Controller in assisting with benefits administration, including acting as the liaison for the Firm’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with the sponsor and TPA, acting as the liaison for the firm’s group medical/dental and group life programs with our external representatives, administering insurance programs for the firm, (partner life, short and long-term disability, casualty, professional liability, employee bonding, etc.), and recommending changes in coverage as appropriate to reduce costs or improve benefits
  • Continuously reviews the firm’s general office and administrative procedures for potential improvements or refinements with the Director of Office Services
  • Develops, publishes, and constantly updates staff, lawyer and other office procedure manuals
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Looking for a summer internship?

KJK’s Summer Associate Program

Our summer associate program is an essential component of KJK’s hiring process. Each summer associate is assigned an associate mentor. The mentor and summer associate interact closely throughout the summer. Projects are assigned based on a summer associate’s expressed areas of interest and to provide exposure to a wide variety of work. In addition, assignments are coordinated by a partner who ensures that each summer associate receives a mix of projects from attorneys in each of the firm’s practice groups. The summer associate works directly with the assigning senior associate or partner and receives substantive feedback from the assigning attorney. We don’t create projects for our summer associates: assignments reflect the type of work that a new attorney would perform as a first or second-year associate at our firm. 

Our summer associates are encouraged to attend monthly practice group meetings and are often invited to bar association events, client meetings, negotiation and drafting sessions, depositions, trials, pre-trials and other events. Our summer program is a unique opportunity for the right student, not only to learn from the inside out about our varied and challenging legal practice, but to forge what we hope will be a rewarding and long-lived relationship.
