Director of Business Development

Position Summary:

KJK’s Director of Business Development will be responsible for managing the firm’s business development initiatives by proactively identifying, qualifying and helping to close new business opportunities. This position can be remote or resident in the Cleveland Office. This dynamic, seasoned individual will assist in sustaining KJK’s reputation for quality, expertise and innovation by supporting the firm’s business development activities in collaboration with the Marketing team and utilizing essential tools such as CRM and pipeline management software. Our ideal candidate is comfortable interacting with all levels of personnel and clients/prospects, as well as working with attorneys throughout the business development process. This candidate will also have experience managing business development or customer support teams and developing and implementing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the firm’s overall business development strategy, including marketing/sales qualifications and sales pipeline process
  • Identify strategies and opportunities for new and existing client relationships
  • Serve an integral role in new business pitches, helping to develop effective proposals and pitch presentations as needed in collaboration with attorneys and the Marketing team
  • Continue to refine fixed fee scoping process and managed all fixed fee scoping
  • Manage the firm’s sales pipeline to track sales activity as well as the results and outcomes of proposals, pitches and RFPs
  • Manage firm business relationships
  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching to attorneys in support of overall business development strategy, specific plans and other initiatives
  • Work with attorneys to understand existing clients and cross-sell/up-sell opportunities
  • Conduct competitive and industry intelligence
  • Coordinate detailed client research analyses and business intelligence
  • Research and recommend new business potentials and targeting and segmentation strategies
  • Manage sales and marketing efforts for KJK’s technology entity, Connective Counsel.
  • Work closely with individual attorneys to leverage and support business development, community and philanthropic activities
  • Provide marketing communications support to external business development program
  • Manage team of Business Unit Managers (responsibilities include CRM management, sales pipeline management and project management)

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 6+ years of experience in professional services sales, with law firm experience preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience managing and collaborating with cross-functional team members, staff and/or interns.
  • Knowledge and experience with CRM, sales pipeline software and sales leads tools
  • Proven results identifying sales prospects and securing business, preferably in a professional services environment
  • Experience with cross-selling initiatives
  • Proven leader with demonstrated success leading large-scale, client-focused business development initiatives
  • Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HubSpot
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Creative and high energy; results and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong team player with ability to work independently and effectively with minimum supervision and/or direction in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Business Unit Manager

Position Summary:

Kohrman Jackson & Krantz is seeking to hire a Business Unit Manager. Based out of our Cleveland office, this position offers remote flexibility. The role of the Business Unit Manager is to assist with the development and execution of business development strategies for business units as assigned and provide ongoing support to the Business Units to increase profitability and efficiency through project management. This position works directly with all members of the Marketing department and assigned Practice Chairs in executing key responsibilities, and reports to the Director of Business Development. The primary objectives are to raise the market profile of the assigned Business Units, coordinate efforts with team members on cross-selling and other firm-wide programs and manage client accounts through budget tracking and project management. This role will also provide support to other marketing and business development initiatives as requested.

  • Working with the Director of Business Development, identify strategies and opportunities for new and existing client relationships and work with Marketing department to fill the new client sales funnel
  • Conduct competitive and industry intelligence and coordinate detailed client research analyses
  • Become an expert in assigned business unit practice areas and industry trends, and work with Marketing team to collaborate on campaign content
  • Assist with the development and execution of strategic, actionable business development plans for identified Business Units and related practices
  • Own marketing to sales qualified process for assigned Business Unit, ensuring seamless lead transition from Marketing team to business won
  • Project manage client engagement in assigned Business Units to ensure profitability and track activities against budgets, benchmark progress and measure ROI
  • Work closely with the Marketing department, Director of Business Development and Practice Group leaders to support cross-selling and client pursuit opportunities and identify the best way to capture and close those opportunities
  • Responsible for drafting fixed fee scopes and effectively communicating with all team members to align on project timelines and agreed upon deliverables
  • Identify and prioritize the most strategic client educational programs, speaking opportunities and sponsorships for assigned Business Units, and manage follow up activities to ensure leads are converted into engagements
  • Implement and manage the RFP process and other business development opportunities requiring targeted written responses
  • Follow news and trends impacting our clients and our business to identify thought leadership and cross-sell opportunities, as well as potential new industries/niche offerings
  • Assist with implementation of other firm-wide marketing and business development initiatives as needed
  • Own CRM management and reporting for assigned Business Unit and build relevant marketing lists using sales lead tools
  • Own and manage project management software to track client deliverables, team time and budget against scope, alert team members to project or budget issues, and communicate with clients on project milestones

Qualifications & Competencies

  • 3+ years of business development, sales and/or marketing experience; legal or other professional services environment preferred but not required. PMP certification is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in marketing, communications, business or related field
  • Knowledge and experience with CRM, sales pipeline software and sales leads tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to motivate attorneys and team members
  • Ability to readily comprehend business objectives, develop and execute appropriate strategies
  • Proactive, highly disciplined approach to developing and executing programs
  • Organized, detail-oriented individual with strong project management skills, and ability to work on multiple tasks with competing deadlines is a must
  • High level of discretion, diplomacy and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
  • Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HubSpot
